KETHEA KIVOTOS was set up in 2002 in Eastern Macedonia and Thrace in response to request made by local authorities. The KETHEA KIVOTOS network offers a comprehensive range of total recovery services to adults addicted to drugs, alcohol and gambling, and to their families.
The Counselling Centres in Kavala, Komotini and Alexandroupoli provide drug users with information and counselling as well as motivating them to tackle their addiction.
Depending on their needs, the Centres prepare drug users and refer them to either the KIVOTOS Outpatient Therapeutic Community in Kavala or to one of KETHEA’s residential therapeutic communities in other cities. In recent years, KETHEA KIVOTOS has also begun to offer counselling services in Orestiada.
The KIVOTOS Outpatient Therapeutic Community in Kavala is the primary treatment phase for drug users with a supportive environment. The Community is non-residential and its members do not usually experience any serious disruption to their routines and social relationships. Their treatment is brought to a close by their joining the Social Reintegration Centre.
KETHEA KIVOTOS’ counselling centres also provide support to people with addictions to alcohol and gambling through flexible outpatient programmes.
In Alexandroupoli, KETHEA KIVOTOS also provides drug users with the option of joining a non intensive therapeutic programme.
Support is also provided for the relatives and partners of people addicted to drugs, alcohol and gambling in all the above cities by the KETHEA KIVOTOS Family Support Unit.
KETHEA KIVOTOS also intervenes in the criminal justice system through its prison-based counselling programme in Komotini Prison.
The Counselling Centre and Outpatient Therapeutic Community in Kavala and the Counselling Centres in Komotini and Orestiada are housed in facilities provided by the respective municipalities in support of the work done by KETHEA KIVOTOS.
